Alice is an artist, writer, and wine producer. After years in the art world, she felt the call to come home to Healdsburg to be the first to make wine from the family vineyard. Her Bordeaux-style wine, like her art, is elemental and honest — her philosophy of minimal intervention winemaking combined with restrained use of new oak allows the volcanic terroir of Warnecke Ranch to shine.
The intense ruby red color is a Sutro signature. Expect dark berry aromas with savory, herbal, and chocolate undertones. On the palate – blackcurrants, black cherry, mocha, and spice. This wine has firm tannin structure with a long finish.

In Alice’s words, the can is “unusual, striking, elegant but strong” — just like the wine itself. Alice sketched the hand and pencil that is drawing the label, pairing fine wines with intentional lines.
Think rich and decadent — roast pig, wild duck, and molten chocolate lava cake.
Grapes are sourced from 45-year-old dry farmed Cabernet Sauvignon grown in Volcanic soil. The Warnecke Ranch Vineyard is located on Chalk Hill Road, in the Mayacama bench lands, at the Southern tip of Alexander Valley. This micro-region is at the cross roads between hot climate of the valley and the cool corridor of the Russian River and the foothills. The vines habitually yield few clusters and small berries, leading to intense color and concentrated aromatics. In the winery we treat the fruit carefully to maintain the elegance of tannins achieved in the field. Following a brief cold soak, the fermentation is carefully watched to never exceed 90 degrees. The wine macerates on the skins for an additional week after dryness is reached, again, allowing the tannins to mature to their more elegant potential.
